This interactive map presents county-level South Carolina peach acreage from the USDA Census of Agriculture. The dataset currently includes the 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022 census years and is intended to be updated as subsequent census data become available.
Each included census year provides peach acres of bearing age, acres of nonbearing age, and total acres of bearing and nonbearing age. Bearing acreage represents established peach acreage of fruit-producing age, while nonbearing acreage generally represents newer plantings that have not yet reached bearing age.
The 2017 and 2022 census years also include available acreage classified as clingstone or freestone peaches, with bearing, nonbearing, and combined measures for each type.
These measures describe planted peach acreage. They do not represent peach production, yield, tree counts, sales, or the amount of fruit harvested. Published component values may not add to a reported total when individual values are withheld or unavailable.
These data were obtained from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Census of Agriculture through the Quick Stats database. The Census of Agriculture provides agricultural information at national, state, and county levels. Source records were cleaned and restructured into South Carolina county worksheets for mapping and report generation.
Counties view displays reported county acreage using classified colors. Surface view interpolates a continuous visualization from available county values to illustrate broad spatial patterns. Surface shading is not an official acreage estimate for locations between county data points or for counties with unpublished values.
Users can select a census year and acreage category, adjust visualization settings, inspect county values, save map images, and generate PDF reports.
This tool supports agricultural education, Extension programming, historical exploration, and discussion of changes in South Carolina peach acreage. Results should be interpreted in the context of Census of Agriculture definitions, confidentiality protections, and source-data availability.
